Aamir Khan, Ashutosh Gowarikar and their "Lagaan" have taken Bollywood to a completely new high by elevating it to such a level that India is unmistakably identified as a country that has reached par excellence in filmmaking. "Lagaan" was amongst the five movies that were nominated for the Oscars in the "Foreign Language Film" category.
"Amelie" (France), "Elling" (Norway), "No Man's Land" (Bosnia) and "Son of Bride" (Argentina) were the others. With these films emerging from such a brilliant genre of filmmakers, "Lagaan" indeed had to drive exhaustive efforts to contend with international standards. At the 74th Annual Awards, this evening, "No Man's Land" won the Oscar in this category, a movie that showcases the tragic tale that revolves around the Bosnian war. Hard luck that "Lagaan" missed the award, but the nomination itself was an immeasurable achievement, not just for Aamir and team, but also for our nation, for every filmmaker who's shimmering in the galaxy of Indian cinema today. Great going Aamir.....the glory is not only in "Lagaan" winning an award, but also in the fact that "Lagaan" itself was an award to our country!

In fact the top officials of Godrej revealed, "For the first time the company has signed on a celebrity for its appliances business. We choose Preity Zinta because she possess all those values that Godrej is all about. Also, we wanted someone who is vivacious and fun loving. And Zinta fits the profile." Well, that's right, who better than the cool, cool, pretty cool Preity Zinta for sporting the Pentacool refrigerator. So look out for the commercials that will be hitting your small screens soon, and beware... 'hot' Preity is all out to give you a real 'chill'!

Urmila Matondkar has moulded herself well to the various requirements her roles have demanded.
Her journey as an actress began with a brief, but noteworthy, stint as a child star in films like Shyam Benegal's Kalyug and Shekhar Kapur's Masoom. After which she disappeared. Until she resurfaced in N Chandra's Narsimha as a full-fledged heroine. Unfortunately, her lacklustre comeback went unnoticed. It was followed by duds like Aa Gale Lag Ja, Shreeman Aashique , Chamatkar and Bedardi
Thereafter began her long stint with director Ramgopal Varma, starting with the low-profile Drohi, which didn't click. Then, Rangeela happened. Urmila's looks, hair, clothes, attitude... everything went in for a complete transformation, thanks in a large part to dress designer Manish Malhotra and make-up whiz Mickey Contractor. Her new hot, glamorous persona became the talk of tinseltown. The sceptics overlooked the acting bit and dismissed her as a mere sex symbol. To prove her mettle, Urmila not only sported a make-up free look in the underworld thriller Satya but came up with superb performances in Kaun as well as in her latest avatar as the obsessed lover in Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya .
After over a decade in the industry, Urmila is today a seasoned industry person, who has learnt the ropes well. Knows how to come out tops through the lows in her career.
